Goodbye ‘Feluda’, goodbye ‘Apu’

There is, there is the emphasis on the telepathy of Pradosh Mitri.

Mitra alias Feluda, the first prodigy of the big screen, did Sumatra Chatterje already realize through the power of telepathy that his departure bell has rung from the earth!

Celluloid mystery thriller detective story Feluda's successful portrayal or Apu's tragic life story! Apart from these two characters, the actor who has taken the Bengali film to another level is Soumitra Chatterjee.

He passed away on Sunday (November 15) after a long battle with various age-related causes including corona. But such celebrities are not dead at all, he will live in the minds of thousands to millions of fans as long as there is Bengali language, there will be movies, and there will be Bengali! Tribute from the bottom of my heart to the death of this talented artist.

A legendary actor, he is a successful recite; He is also a poet and translator. This talented man was born on 19 January 1935 in Krishnan agar in British India which is now part of Nadia district. However, Soumitra Chattopadhyay's original home was in the village of Kaya near Shilaidaha in Kushtia, now Bangladesh. From the time of his grandfather, his family members started living in Krishnanagar in Nadia district. Due to his father's job change, he spent his childhood studies in various places.

He first passed ISC from Calcutta City College and BA Honors in Bengali and studied for two years at the Post Graduate College of Arts. Her chances of starring in a film came when she was a radio announcer and played a small role on stage. That too with Satyajit Ray himself who took Indian cinema to the international level with his first film. Starting from that.

After that he acted in 14 movies of Ray one by one. In world cinema, the Ray-Soumitra duo is as successful and popular as the director-actor duo of Mifun and Kurosawa, Mastroini and Fellini, De Niro and Soares. Apart from this, he has also acted in films of talented directors like Mrinal Sen, Tapan Singh, Ajay Kare.

Listing the best films of such a colorful career is a difficult task. In addition, judging by the popularity of the audience, there were two pens for five movies of Soumitra Chatterjee.

Apur Sansar (1959)

The last film of the Apu trilogy made by Satyajit Ray is called 'Apu Sansar'. Ray made two more films before making the film. The pictures were 'Parashpathar' and 'Jalsaghar'. Ray then went to Europe to attend a festival to attend the premiere of the film 'Jalsaghar'. There, a journalist asked him, the audience did not know the final outcome of 'Pather Panchali' and 'Aparajit'.

Ray fell into thoughts about this. Although the story of Bibhutibhushan was built on subjugation, this time Apu wrote the final result in his own pen! 'Apur Sansar' was released in 1959. Soumitra Chatterjee and Sharmila Tagore made their acting debuts through this film.

When Aparna could not get a job even after passing IA, tuition was her only hope to earn a living from renting a house in Kolkata. Meanwhile, Apu wants to be immortal even after composing literature. One day he suddenly met his friend Pulu. Pulu takes her to her mamabari to visit her cousin Aparna's wedding.

But as the groom was unnatural, the bridegroom finally gave the bride to Apu. Apu-Aparna's family was doing well in Calcutta. But Aparna died while returning to her father's house to give birth to a child. In that show, Apu left the family. She doesn't even feel the pull towards her son. Finally, after five years, Apu saw her son Kajal. Not the father, Kajal thought he was a friend and pulled him close.

At the end of the film, the scene of Apu carrying her child on her neck and returning home is bound to make anyone emotional. Legendary musician Pandit Ravi Shankar has composed music for all the three films of the 'Apu' trio. He holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest international career.

Pather Panchali, Aparajit or Apu Sansar all end with three very similar outcomes. And that is to forget the past and live anew, the journey to the new future.

Joy Baba Felunath (1989)

Satyajit Ray's second and last Feluda film 'Joy Baba Felunath'. There is a devotion in the name of the picture, right? Yes, the whole picture was shot in Benares (Kashi), a city in Uttar Pradesh, India, on the banks of the Ganges.

Jatayu's new book 'Karal Kumbhir' has come out in Mahalaya. That is why Lalmohan Ganguly alias Jatayu comes to Benares with Feluda-Topse in a cheerful mood during the puja holiday. But there is a saying that even if Dheki goes to heaven, he pretends to be rice. While Feluda was on holiday, he got involved in the theft of an expensive Ganesha from the aristocratic Ghoshal family.

One of the notable aspects of the story is the presence of Maganlal Meghraj. Maganlal is considered to be the most powerful and dangerous of the Khal characters mentioned in the Feluda series. Like the previous film, Feluda was played by Soumitra, Topse and Jatayu in the roles of Siddharth Chatterjee and Santosh Dutt respectively. Powerful actor Utpal Dutt played the role of Maganlal Meghraj in the film.

Day and Night in the Forest (1980)

Ray made a film of the same name based on Sunil Gangopadhyay's novel 'Day and Night in the Forest', one of the most popular novels of the new generation in Bengal. The story of the movie is about four friends Asim, Shekhar, Hari and Sanjay.

Although friends, the position of the four in terms of social position is like four poles. Infinitely ambitious toggle young man, executive of a big company. Sanjay, who has a repressed nature, is in government service. The shapely Hari is a sportsman but has just failed in love and has twisted. Shekhar is the fourth with them, although he is currently unemployed, he is full of humor.

He is the producer of humor in the whole movie. Leaving half of their civic life, they come to the forest of Palamau, a small village in Bihar, without any hotel or reservation. Luckily they put together a post bungalow. There are also three more main female characters in the story.

The role of Soumitra Chatterjee, Shuvendu Chatterjee, Samit Bhanj and Ravi Ghosh as four friends in the film gives a meaningful fulfillment to the film.

Sharmila Tagore as Nanad and Baudi, Kaberi Basu and Simi Garewal as Santal Nari all deserve praise. Gautam Ghosh made 'Abaar Aranye' in 2003 with the story of old age of his friends in the film.

Charulata (1984)

In 1901, Rabithakur wrote his short story 'Nastaneer'. It is considered one of the best short stories ever written. It is said that the story is based on the relationship between Rabindranath's elder brother Jyotirindranath Tagore, his wife Kadambari Devi and Rabindranath Tagore.

The story of this novel is based on three central characters Charu, Amal and Bhupathi. Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhavi Mukherjee and Shailen Mukherjee played the roles of Charu, Amal and Bhupathi in the 1967 film produced by Satyajit Ray. For the sake of illustration, the story of the film has been changed from the original story.

The story of the film shows that Bhupathi, the head of an affluent Bengali family, was immersed in the political thought of the time and published an English newspaper in his own house called 'Sentinel'.

He worked day and night for the newspaper, but his busy schedule made it difficult for him to spend time with his young wife, Charulata. The wife spends her time in solitude. Charu's brother Umapada came to their house with his wife Mandakini, but Charu did not feel lonely.

At one point, Bhupathi's cousin Amal came to their family. Charulata and Amal were already quite close, but it was limited to the naturalness of Bouthan-Thakurpo. Gradually it became apparent that Amal's relationship with Charu was no longer just Bouthan-Thakurpore, but something else.

Then Amal's marriage proposal came from Burdwan. Realizing that Charu was weakening towards herself, Amal decided that she would have to leave the house to maintain the dignity of her grandfather's faith.

But Charu's brother Umapad betrayed them and stole their newspaper money and fled from his wife's house. Bhupathi broke down in this situation. He requested Amal not to leave the house. But Amal left the house that night with a small letter to his grandfather.

Bhupathi turned his attention to his wife when he lost the illusion of publishing a magazine. But Charu's affection for Amal has not diminished in his mind yet.

After receiving Amal's letter at the end of the film, Charu finds out that Amal is getting married soon. After hearing this news, Charu broke down in tears and Bhupathi saw it. His wife's relationship with his brother caused great unrest in Bhupathi. On the same day, Charu and Bhupathi's nest was broken.

Belasheshe (2015)

At the last moment, Soumitra Chatterjee intoxicated the audience with his film 'Belasheshe'. Director duo Nandita Roy and Shivprasad Mukherjee have proved themselves in the new genre of film 'Belasheshe'.

The movie is a story of an old man, but the audience has never seen the canvas of life on the big screen before.

As can be seen in the story of the film, Literary lover Bishwanath Majumder (Soumitra Chatterjee), who is involved in the publishing business, unites his son, son's eldest daughter, daughter-in-law on the occasion of Durga Puja and surprised everyone by saying that he wants to end his 49-year marriage with his wife Aarti (Swatilekha Sengupta).

Then the matter went to court with the intervention of boys and girls! But what the viewers are actually thinking, what they are seeing is exactly what it is? The answer is at the end of the picture.
